According to Moroccan media Sport7, the African Nations League is still finalizing its plan, with a projected start in 2029, and the format may undergo significant adjustments.

In this context, Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation, submitted new proposals to the CAF Executive Committee. He called for amendments to the competition rules before their official adoption, to enhance the technical level and intensify competition among national teams.

According to Moroccan media Sport7, the former international proposed abolishing the originally envisioned geographical groupings, instead opting for a continental or international ranking system, similar to the UEFA Nations League model, to ensure more intense and balanced matchups from the early rounds.

Under this plan, teams would be divided into three tiers: the first tier would comprise the 12 strongest teams, split into two groups of six, with the sole objective of competing for the continental championship. The second tier would bring together 24 teams ranked 13th to 36th, while the remaining national teams would enter the third tier.

A corresponding promotion and relegation system would also be included: the bottom two teams in each tier would be relegated, and the top two teams from the lower tier would be promoted, to maintain the competition's intensity and incentive.
