French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari stated that Zidane replacing Deschamps as coach of the French team would be "a godsend."

Marina Ferrari said on RTL radio that Zidane, the French sports icon, is expected to be appointed soon to take over as head coach of the French team. She said: "It's not for me to announce the coach; that's the federation's responsibility. But if there's an opportunity to get someone of such outstanding talent, I think the French team should seize it."

Marina Ferrari was also asked about the salary of the next French national team coach. This is because an amendment was added to the professional sports reform bill, which is expected to be finally passed tomorrow, setting an annual salary cap of €450,000 for managers and employees of professional sports organizations, unless an exemption signed by the Ministry of Sports is obtained. Marina Ferrari admitted: "When you hold such a position in a national team, anywhere in the world, these positions do cost a lot of money." However, she reiterated that this law "was not initiated by the government" and stated that she had "expressed opposition" to the salary cap and exemption clauses because "she believes the state should not interfere with the remuneration of a private organization." But she concluded: "An agreement has been reached between deputies, representatives, and senators, and that's how it is."
