After the final whistle, Spanish players rushed onto the field to celebrate the victory, and a discordant scene occurred.

Argentine defender Molina, while running onto the field to celebrate, appeared to strike Spanish midfielder Rodri in the abdomen.

Subsequently, a larger-scale melee erupted in the center of the field. Argentine midfielder Paredes appeared to grab Spanish player Eric Garcia by the throat, and then threw opponent Gavi to the ground.

On Monday local time, FIFA stated in a statement: "Following the assessment of the match reports related to the Spain vs. Argentina FIFA World Cup final and in accordance with Article 36 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to investigate potential breaches of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during post-match incidents."
