Spanish midfielder Gavi posted a long message on his social media, looking back at his journey from a boy in his hometown to a world champion, and expressing his deep gratitude to his family, club, and late grandmother.

Gavi said: "Don't wake me up from this dream. A kid from Los Palacios y Villafranca, who once played at the Jesús Navas stadium, dreamed of winning the World Cup representing his country. Now, at 21, I have achieved this dream in New York, doing it with a team of beasts. We will go down in history and will always remain in everyone's memory.

Everyone has their own story, and the strength of this team has allowed us to win the second star for this country and let millions of people celebrate this success together, because it should be celebrated! My story is one of many difficult moments due to injuries in the past few years, but thanks to the people around me, my family and friends, and thanks to all the effort and sacrifice I've made to get to where I am today. Now I can say, it was all worth it. Even if I had to go through it all again, and endure even more, I would.

I owe a lot to many people, first and foremost my family, as well as La Liara, Real Betis, and all the La Masia staff who accepted me from day one, as well as the coaches and staff of Barcelona. They helped me grow into a better player and a better person, allowing me to eventually become a world champion.

I also want to especially remember my grandmother. Thank you for the extra strength you gave me in the past few months, I believe you have always been helping me from heaven."
