Former Italy national goalkeeper Pagliuca said that Italy needs to rebuild its football system, find a new coach as soon as possible, and discover more young players.

The former Italy national goalkeeper and ex-player for Sampdoria, Internazionale, and Bologna recently accepted a phone interview with ANSA, during which he stated that the biggest problem in Italian football at present is the "decreasing number of talented players." He said that this is primarily a generational issue, and if young players are good enough, they should be given opportunities to play. He hopes that Italian youth training can be revitalized in the coming years, but also believes that Italy will eventually play a good World Cup again, though even qualifying is difficult at the moment. Pagliuca also asserted that Maldini is a key figure in the reform, believing that he is serious and determined, with successful player and management experience, and can achieve results at the national team and FA levels.

Pagliuca stated that Maldini, Leonardo, and Malagò will jointly decide on the new head coach. He said that if it were Guardiola, "who wouldn't be attracted?"; but he is not against Mancini returning, or bringing in a coach like Conte. Pagliuca also mentioned Pirlo, saying he knows him. He emphasized that the most important thing is to find a truly capable head coach, and all the aforementioned candidates are suitable. However, no matter who coaches the Italian team, they must face the problem of a talent shortage.

Pagliuca believes that Italy should let more young players play, give them more trust and room for error, rather than always prioritizing cheaper foreign players.

When talking about the club level, Pagliuca believes that due to the recent end of the World Cup, many team rosters are still incomplete, and the transfer market has not truly started yet. He said that many teams have not changed much compared to last season, and therefore he still favors Internazionale to win the championship, with Napoli close behind.

As for Juventus, he believes that if Spalletti had coached from the beginning of the season and two or three more players were added, the team would also have a chance to perform well. Pagliuca finally said that he watched every World Cup match and called Spain's victory "well-deserved," hoping that the Italian team can become a protagonist again starting from the next World Cup.
