Casemiro has joined Inter Miami on an initial one-year deal, with an option to extend his stay in MLS until 2029.

The Brazilian left Manchester United as a free agent at the end of 2025-26, having spent four years at Old Trafford after arriving from Real Madrid in a big-money transfer.

Casemiro helped the Red Devils win the EFL Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup in 2023-24, also playing the full game as they lost the 2025 Europa League final to Tottenham.

The 34-year-old's final season with United was arguably his best, with his nine Premier League goals in 2025-26 being the most he has managed in a single campaign for any club, and more than he had managed in his previous three seasons in England (six).

He then started all five of Brazil's games at the World Cup, scoring a crucial equaliser in their round-of-32 win over Japan. However, he was criticised for his display as the Selecao lost to Norway in the next round.

Now, Casemiro will team up with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez – two players he faced regularly during his nine years with Madrid – in Florida.

"What motivates me the most, and I think this is true for every player, is winning and continuing to grow," Casemiro told Miami's website.

"The project the club presented to me, along with the effort everyone made to bring me here, means a lot to me.

"I'm incredibly grateful, and I can't wait to get started so I can repay that trust—not only during the 90 minutes on matchday, but every day in training as well.

"All I can say is thank you, and I'll give everything I have to return the affection and confidence the club has shown me."

Miami confirmed Casemiro's initial contract will run through the remainder of the 2026 campaign and the shortened 'sprint' season planned to take place between February and May 2027.

The MLS calendar will align with Europe's top leagues thereafter, and Casemiro and Miami have an option to extend his stay through 2027-28 and 2028-29.

Miami co-owner David Beckham said: "I'm very proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami. He is a person and a player that I have admired for a long time.

"He is a winner who has achieved so much in the game and after such an incredible career with Real Madrid and Manchester United, I'm delighted that he's decided to make Miami his next home."

Casemiro will link up with the Herons' squad once his visa is processed, with the club returning to MLS action at home to the Chicago Fire on Wednesday.

They then face CF Montreal and the Columbus Crew prior to the Leagues Cup break in August, which could be when Casemiro appears in a Miami shirt for the first time.

Miami emerge from the World Cup break in second place in the Eastern Conference, having taken 31 points from their first 15 games of the season.
