According to Mundo Deportivo, the Dutch midfielder, who was injured during the World Cup, is expected to report back to Barcelona today or tomorrow. 

He will undergo further detailed examinations, and if the worst-case scenario is confirmed, the Dutch international could be sidelined for up to four months due to injury.

De Jong suffered a knee injury while representing the Netherlands at the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. He played in the Round of 16 match against Morocco but could not finish the game. De Jong visited Barcelona's Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper last Friday and underwent a medical examination to assess his physical condition. He is currently awaiting further doctor's examinations and discussions with the club regarding whether to disclose detailed injury information. The possibility of De Jong undergoing surgery cannot be ruled out, and if he does, he would be out for approximately four months.

If the worst expectations come true, Flick has alternatives within the squad. Bernal is the German coach's preferred choice; last season, Bernal filled in for De Jong after his injury. Gavi can also play in this position, as can academy players Marc Bernal and Javi Espart, with the latter excelling as a defensive midfielder in the U19 team. Casadó is not in Flick's plans, and the club is looking for a new team for him.
