Naby Keita: I believe Van Dijk would play well even at Milan

Van Dijk was linked with Milan by the media this summer. Regarding this, former Liverpool player Naby Keita said in an interview that he believes his former teammate can still perform well even in Serie A.

Naby, Milan was indeed interested in you in 2023. Why did the deal not go through in the end?

"It would have been great to play for Milan, but after so many injuries at Liverpool, what I needed most was to regain consistent playing time and match rhythm. I wanted to go to a club where I could get opportunities, so my agent and I chose Werder Bremen. If it weren't for those injuries, I think I would have fought for a starting position at Liverpool, but unfortunately, things didn't turn out that way."

Would playing for Milan and wearing the jersey of a club that witnessed George Weah make history be special for you?

"Of course it would. It would be a great pleasure to play for Milan, but it didn't happen at the time. Now I'm at Ferencvarosi TC, I'm very happy and I want to enjoy this experience to the fullest here."

Now Van Dijk is rumored to be linked with Milan. Can he, at 35, still play a decisive role in Italian football?

"Of course he can. I have great faith in him; we're talking about a world-class defender. Everyone knows his abilities, and I believe he can still play very well if he goes to Milan."

Serie A is more tactical and less fast-paced than the Premier League. Would this help him perform in the later stages of his career?

"Yes, Virgil is very experienced and a top professional player. I'm sure he would play well at Milan too."

Do you think this transfer is possible? Maybe not this summer, but when his contract expires next year...

"I don't know what his plans are. I only know that he loves Liverpool very much. I don't know what he will choose, but I wish him all the best and continued success."
