On July 24th, Beijing time (CEST), in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana play-offs, Boca Juniors defeated O'Higgins 1-0 at La Bombonera. After the match, Paredes was interviewed and discussed whether he would retire from the Argentina national team.

Paredes said: "I need to think about it. For many people, considering whether to continue will be a decision. It has been an amazing process. It will be very difficult to maintain this level and keep the team performing like this. I need to think, reflect, and communicate with the coach. I need to make a decision calmly. I'm not sure if I will continue."

Paredes just finished his FIFA World Cup journey on July 20th, where he helped Argentina reach the FIFA World Cup final. Today, he started for Boca Juniors and played the full match, assisting his teammate Merentiel for the only goal of the game with a chip pass.
