On July 24th, Beijing time (CEST), in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana play-offs, Boca Juniors defeated O'Higgins 1-0 at La Bombonera. After the match, Paredes was interviewed and discussed whether he would retire from the Argentina national team.

Paredes said: "I need to think about it. For many, considering whether to continue will be a decision. It was an amazing process. It will be very difficult to maintain this level and have the team continue to perform like this. I need to think, reflect, and communicate with the coach. I need to make a decision calmly. I'm not sure if I will continue."

Paredes had just finished his FIFA World Cup journey on July 20th, helping Argentina win the FIFA World Cup runner-up title. Today, he started for Boca Juniors and played the full match, also assisting his teammate Merentiel with a lob pass for the only goal of the game.
