On July 26, Khalid Al-Ghamdi, chairman of Al-Ahli Jeddah, officially announced his resignation on social media, ending his three-year tenure.

Al-Ghamdi bid farewell to Al-Ahli Jeddah fans via his personal social media account, stating: "My experience as chairman of the board of directors of this great club for the past three years has been a journey of pride and cherished moments in my career. Today, I officially announce my resignation as chairman of Al-Ahli Jeddah. During this time, the club faced many challenges and achieved numerous accomplishments, most notably winning the AFC Champions League twice in a row and the Saudi Super Cup."

Al-Ghamdi also expressed his gratitude to the club's board members, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), club staff, players, coaching staff, management team, and fan organizations. He also thanked everyone who supported him, or who held different opinions due to their concern for the club's development.

At the end of his farewell letter, Al-Ghamdi sent a message to Al-Ahli Jeddah fans: "You have always been the supporters and partners behind every success of the team. Thank you for your trust and support, and I hope you will continue to send me your blessings. Everything the club has achieved is first and foremost due to Allah, and secondly inseparable from your immense support. Today I leave this position, but Al-Ahli Jeddah will remain strong with its glorious history and great fans. I firmly believe that the team will continue to achieve success in the future and create more brilliance in all competitions."

Al-Ghamdi's resignation also confirmed previous reports from Saudi media. Al Riyadiah had previously revealed that Al-Ghamdi might run for president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.

According to previous reports from the media, Al-Ghamdi plans to officially run in the Saudi Arabian Football Federation presidential election to be held on August 30. The report stated that his decision to join the FA presidential election is related to his no longer continuing as chairman of Al-Ahli Jeddah. Al-Ghamdi is expected to announce more election details on Sunday, including his campaign team roster, which may include some former players and administrators who have served in Saudi football.

This Saudi Arabian Football Federation presidential election will be held after the resignation of the current president, Yasser Al-Misehal. The latter previously announced his departure via his personal social media account, a move that occurred after the Saudi national team concluded its 2026 World Cup journey.

Al-Ghamdi was elected chairman of Al-Ahli Jeddah three consecutive times starting from July 2024. During his tenure, the team achieved many important results, including the first team winning the AFC Champions League twice in a row and the Saudi Super Cup.
