According to the latest report from The Athletic's Ornstein, Chelsea are considering signing Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion. The 35-year-old forward has 12 months left on his contract, and Brighton & Hove Albion are aware of interest from other clubs.

Reportedly, Welbeck has attracted the attention of Xabi Alonso as a player and leader, and while the situation is still in its early stages, all parties are optimistic that a deal can be reached.
Last season, Welbeck scored 13 goals in 37 Premier League games for Brighton & Hove Albion, setting a personal best league goal record. Since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Watford in 2020, he has made 201 appearances for the team, scoring 51 goals.
After primarily signing players under 25 in recent seasons, Chelsea have begun to look for players they believe are more suited to the Premier League. They previously tried to sign 34-year-old Xhaka early in the transfer window and have shown interest in 31-year-old free agent Stones.
Chelsea have several forwards in their squad, but the club will listen to offers for Delap and Emega, while Guiu is expected to leave on loan or a permanent transfer. Jackson has also returned after his loan spell at Bayern, and Villa have shown interest in him.
