According to journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Šeško's calf injury recovery is progressing as expected, and he is expected to return before the start of the new season. The 23-year-old Šeško has been following a rehabilitation program, which caused him to miss the team's first two preseason warm-up matches against Wrexham and Rosenborg. Šeško is now expected to be available to play against Atlético Madrid, and Manchester United also plans to sign a rotational striker, but the club has not contacted Welbeck.

Internal sources at the Carrington training base indicate that Šeško's recovery is proceeding according to plan, and the team had not scheduled him to play in the initial warm-up matches.

As early as May 3, in Manchester United's 3-2 victory over Liverpool, Šeško was already playing with an injury, and that match further aggravated his calf injury.

At the time, the club did not explicitly announce the severity of the injury, and the last three official matches he missed last season will be the only matches he misses.

The Slovenian international resumed outdoor training last week and has a chance to play in this Saturday's warm-up match against Atlético Madrid in Stockholm.

Šeško is highly likely to start in the match against Paris Saint-Germain on August 8 in Gothenburg; after their trip to Sweden, Manchester United will fly to Dublin for a six-day training camp.

On August 12, the team will face Leeds United at Croke Park, which is the second-to-last warm-up match before the start of the Premier League; in the first round of the new Premier League season, Manchester United will play against Hull City on August 22.

During Šeško's injury absence, Zirkzee had the opportunity to start against Wrexham and Rosenborg, but Manchester United intends to sell him.

Manchester United signed Zirkzee for £36.5 million in July 2024. To avoid a loss on this transfer, the team would need at least £21 million in transfer fees, making a sale unlikely.

The 25-year-old Zirkzee attracted attention from several Serie A clubs during his time at Manchester United, and a loan return to Serie A remains the most likely outcome.

Manchester United plans to sign a new striker to support Šeško, but the club denies having had any contact with Danny Welbeck before Chelsea's reported interest in him. Welbeck scored 14 goals for Brighton & Hove Albion last season and has always been willing to return to his former club, Manchester United.

However, Chelsea has already made a move to pursue the 35-year-old player, whose contract with Brighton & Hove Albion expires next year.
