Karim Benzema is thrilled that "legend" Zinedine Zidane looks set to be announced as France's new head coach.

Zidane, a World Cup winner with France in 1998, has long been expected to be named as Didier Deschamps' successor.

Deschamps stepped down after the end of the World Cup, at which France finished fourth, having made the decision not to renew his contract back in January 2025.

Zidane is expected to be announced as Les Bleus' new boss on Tuesday, and Benzema had high praise for his former Real Madrid head coach.

"He's a legend, he's the big brother," Benzema told Konbini.

"Am I happy about him becoming the manager of Les Bleus? I don't know for sure if it's him, but if it is him, yes, I am seriously happy."

Zidane has not coached since leaving Real Madrid for the second time back in 2021.

Across his two spells at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, he led Madrid to three straight Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018, as well as lifting two LaLiga titles, two Supercopa de Espanas, two UEFA Super Cups and two Club World Cups.
