Former Real Madrid captain Nacho Fernández says he is enjoying life in Saudi Arabia.

Nacho, 36, joined Al-Qadsiah on a free transfer from Real Madrid in summer 2024.
Nacho told Spanish newspaper AS: "Yes, everything is going well. My family and I are very happy here. This experience is completely different from anything else I've experienced in my career, but the club I'm playing for is growing and competing with the best teams. More importantly, seeing the children happy at their British school gives me peace of mind. We live a very peaceful life there, and I have nothing to complain about. Of course, I miss Madrid, where my home, friends, and family are, but I'm doing well now, I'm happy, and I'm enjoying this time."
On Saudi culture and life, the Spanish defender said: "Absolutely. My wife lives a normal life while respecting local customs and traditions. We are foreigners there, but my family and I have been treated very well wherever we go. As long as you respect everyone there, you won't encounter any problems. Life is very pleasant, except that the summer weather is extremely hot."
Reflecting on his decision to leave Real Madrid, Nacho said: "I loved fighting and sacrificing for Real Madrid because it was the club of my life. I don't regret any decision I've made, whether staying initially or leaving later, because I thought it was the right time. Leaving when everything is going well, you're still captain, and you've just won the Champions League is harder than leaving when things aren't going well."
On his physical condition, Nacho said: "I feel the same as I did in my last year at Real Madrid—I'm in great shape, even leaner. My goal every year is to play every game and every minute, and I did that throughout my year in Saudi Arabia. I think the way players take care of themselves has changed; we take better care of our bodies. Maybe I can play as long as Modrić or Cristiano Ronaldo, but I won't compare myself to them. I won't say I'm retiring now, but I will end my career when I'm in good shape and playing at the highest level, just like I was in Madrid. I won't let football force me to retire—I've thought about this very clearly, and I think that day will come sooner than expected."
On Cucurella joining Real Madrid, Nacho commented: "The most accurate way to put it is that it's a great signing. He has 100% fighting spirit, always wants to fight for the team, and his characteristics are very suited to Real Madrid. I think he will be very helpful to the team now; the team needs such intensity and fighting spirit. I wish him all the best, and I believe he will continue to achieve his dreams and goals at Real Madrid."
