Former Italian Football Federation president and current UEFA vice-president Gabriele Gravina has sharply criticized FIFA president Gianni Infantino in La Repubblica.

"Football does not belong to Infantino, nor to those who hold high positions in institutions." Gravina also criticized the idea of "selling the FIFA World Cup" as demonstrating "the assumption of non-existent powers, or the arrogance of claiming football as one's own." He stated that this "plan was only learned from the international media, and FIFA had never discussed it with anyone before."

"This is truly unacceptable. Football is not just a business," Gravina said. He also pointed out that proposing such an operation in a FIFA election year, claiming it would bring more funds to national federations, "is very serious." He believes that football and national federations "need respect more than money."

The Italian football official also stated that "we saw unacceptable things" at the FIFA World Cup, and pointed the finger at "political interference accepted by Infantino."
