According to Spanish media outlet SER, the co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup is once again facing controversy, with Portugal's Green Party Livre calling for a review of Morocco's eligibility.

With four years until the opening of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the venue arrangements for the tournament, co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, remain a focal point. Portugal's Green Party Livre recently called on the Portuguese government and the Portuguese Football Federation to reconsider Morocco's eligibility as a co-host, citing the recent Ceuta immigration crisis.

The party stated in a declaration that the inclusion of a country like Morocco in the joint bid is "unacceptable" and demanded a re-evaluation of its role in the project. Livre, which holds 6 seats in the Portuguese parliament, claims that this decision involves human rights issues as well as political and security concerns. Livre also criticized Morocco's continuous human rights violations, repression of the Sahrawi people, and its refusal to acknowledge their right to self-determination. The party further accused Morocco of exploiting its citizens, including minors, to pressure the Spanish border during the mass entry of people into Ceuta. The request has been submitted to Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and Portuguese Football Federation President Pedro Proença.

Livre hopes that the decision will not only consider the consistency of Portugal's foreign policy and human rights stance but also assess the logistical and security issues brought about by the FIFA World Cup. Livre also called for continuous communication with the Spanish government and the Spanish Football Federation, chaired by Rafael Lozano, to address this issue as soon as possible and avoid impacting tournament preparations. Livre spokesperson Jorge Pinto wrote in a message reposted on BlueSky: "Given everything that has happened, a brave decision must be made: Portugal cannot be an accomplice in co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Morocco.

Livre will do everything possible to prevent us from unfortunately co-hosting this event with a country that has neither demonstrated competence nor earned trust." In Spain, Sumar party deputy Nahuel González also believes that the bidding parties should no longer retain Morocco. He wrote on X: "The 2030 FIFA World Cup cannot be shared with a country that threatens and exploits desperate people for geopolitical gain." In fact, the party has already submitted a motion to Congress, demanding that Spain not co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Morocco after the Ceuta crisis.

According to Spanish media outlet Cadena COPE host Antón Meana, who recently revealed on his show, there are "real concerns" within the Spanish Football Federation regarding the venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup final. The final, which was initially highly likely to be held in Madrid, is now shifting towards Rabat. FIFA President Infantino's connections with Morocco could be a decisive factor, ultimately moving the tournament's most important match away from Spain and to Morocco.
