Andrey Santos has called his move to Manchester United a step up, following his £48m transfer from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford.

Santos made 43 appearances for Chelsea last season, gradually establishing himself in the team. Chelsea finished a dismal 10th in the Premier League last season, failing to qualify for any European competition. Manchester United also faced similar difficulties at one point, but improved their form after Carrick took over in January, eventually finishing third and securing Champions League qualification.

"The first week felt a little bit surreal because, you know, it's a new environment, a new club," Santos said at Manchester United's pre-season training camp.

"But from day one, I felt at home. I think that's really important for me and for the other new players.

"Is Manchester United a step up from Chelsea? Yes, of course. I know Chelsea is also a big club, so I'm grateful for everything Chelsea did for me during my time there.

"But now Chelsea is in the past, and this is my home now. I want to stay here for a very long time and win many trophies.

"I have my own goals, and I hope to work towards them with my teammates, and hopefully win some trophies."

Santos, hoping to fill the void left by Casemiro's departure, added: "I prefer to play as a deep-lying midfielder in the number six role.

"When I don't have the ball, I try to help my teammates, and when I have the ball, I like to break through the lines and go forward.

"For me, Casemiro is a legend. Now he's gone, and I'm here. I feel like I can do what Casemiro did last season."
