According to "Football & Finance," Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho is preparing to enter the basketball world. He is considering collaborating with the Andorran investment fund Clayton Sport to invest in AS Monaco basketball club, aiming to help the club, which is in serious financial crisis, overcome its difficulties.

Reports indicate that the investment group formed by Ronaldinho and Clayton Sport has submitted a letter of intent to Monaco Basketball Club's executive director, Oleksiy Yefimov, formally expressing their intention to invest. Meanwhile, Ronaldinho is also preparing to return to the Italian arena recently, wearing a Ravenna jersey.

If this investment is finalized, the Monaco Basketball Club's original sale plan may undergo significant changes. Previously, the club was close to being acquired by the Helen Holdings investment group, led by former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn.

According to the current proposal, Clayton Sport is willing to take on Monaco's €2.5 million debt to the EuroLeague, and also provide a bank guarantee worth €5 million to meet the requirements of the French basketball financial regulatory body DNCCG.

In addition, Ronaldinho and Clayton Sport plan to invest approximately €10 million over the next three seasons to improve Monaco's financial situation and strengthen its athletic programs, with the goal of helping the team return to the top ranks of French and even European basketball.

Monaco is currently experiencing a severe existential crisis. On July 3rd this year, the French National Basketball League announced that Monaco was excluded from the 2026-27 season of the French basketball top-tier league, Betclic Élite, because the club could not provide sufficient guarantees of financial sustainability.
