According to several Serbian media reports, Red Star Belgrade will officially appoint Liel as the team's new head coach on Thursday local time.

Red Star Belgrade lost to Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday (first leg 0-1, second leg 0-2), after which coach Dejan Stankovic announced his resignation.

Liel was a candidate for the Red Star coaching position last season, but at that time Milojevic remained until the winter break, and was then replaced by Stankovic. It is reported that Liel will sign a two-year contract with Red Star.

Liel was dismissed by Eintracht Frankfurt after the 2025/26 season due to poor results and controversial public appearances.
