Al Hilal are testing Aston Villa's resolve to keep Ollie Watkins after making an offer worth £38million for the England striker.

Watkins, 30, is open to the move as the Saudi side have made a couple of proposals this summer but Villa want to keep him.

He scored 16 Premier League goals last season - matching his tally from the previous campaign - while only Erling Haaland and Mo Salah have managed more than his 77 across the last five seasons.

Watkins did not travel to Salzburg for the Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain last week as part of the club's plans for their players who went deep into the World Cup, but as it stands the club are planning for him to be available for their Premier League opener at Brighton this Sunday.

Villa have been looking at a move for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson this summer, as previously reported by Daily Mail Sport.

Villa, meanwhile, have agreed a loan with an obligation to buy West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The fee is understood to be around £18m and he will have a medical on Wednesday.

Daily Mail Sport revealed last week that Villa were in pole position for the Congo international.

Villa were rebuffed in a cheeky attempt at a straight loan proposal but talks have since progressed for the 28-year-old to join Unai Emery's squad.
