Official news, Leeds United have signed Borussia Monchengladbach defender Elvedi for a reported total transfer fee of €10 million, including €8 million fixed and an additional €2 million in add-ons.

Leeds United have officially announced that the club has signed Swiss international Elvedi on a permanent transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The defender becomes Leeds United's fourth new signing of the summer transfer window and will bring a wealth of experience to Daniel Farke's squad.

Elvedi came through the academy of his hometown club FC Zurich and made his first-team debut in 2014 against Lausanne Sport.

After 26 appearances for FC Zurich, Borussia Monchengladbach invited the then-teenage defender and signed him before the start of the 2015/16 season.

In his first season at Gladbach, Elvedi made 21 Bundesliga appearances and 2 Champions League appearances, quickly gaining experience in top-level competitions.

Since then, he has played for Gladbach for over 10 years, making a total of 364 appearances, scoring 19 goals, and repeatedly helping the team qualify for European competitions.

Now, the defender will reunite with Farke, having played together at Gladbach during the 2022/23 season. In that season, Elvedi made 34 appearances across all competitions, scoring 3 goals, including one in the 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim on the opening day.

Elvedi has made 318 Bundesliga appearances in total, ranking eighth on Gladbach's all-time Bundesliga appearance list, and is also the team's most-capped non-German player.

In addition to his excellent performance in the German league, the 29-year-old defender also has a brilliant national team career. He made his national team debut in 2016 against Belgium, when he was just 19 years old.

Elvedi was included in Switzerland's squad for Euro 2016 and has since participated in every major tournament with Switzerland, making 73 appearances for the national team to date.

At this summer's World Cup, Elvedi played every minute for Switzerland, helping the team top Group B and ultimately reach the quarterfinals in the North American section. This equalled Switzerland's best-ever World Cup performance and was their first time reaching the World Cup quarterfinals since 1954.
