On August 20, Bundesliga club Union Berlin officially announced that the club has extended the contract with 26-year-old Serbian forward Andrija Ilic.

Ilic joined Union Berlin on loan in the summer of 2024, and subsequently earned the team's recognition with his outstanding performance, officially transferring to the club in the summer of 2025. To date, he has played in 50 official matches for Union Berlin, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists, directly involved in 25 goals.
The official announcement is as follows:
Union Berlin is pleased to announce that forward Ilic has extended his contract with the team.
Having scored crucial goals in the final stages of the season, delivered decisive performances in important matches, and officially joined last summer, Andrija Ilic quickly became an indispensable member of the Union Berlin squad. Now, the Serbian forward will continue to stay in Köpenick and compete with the team in the new season.
In the summer of 2024, Ilic joined Union Berlin on loan. At that time, he had already accumulated rich professional experience in Serbia, Latvia, Norway, and France.
After joining Union Berlin, Ilic quickly matured and gradually became an important force in the team's offense.
Especially in the second half of the 2024-25 season, the 1.89-meter tall forward demonstrated excellent goal-scoring ability. He scored 7 goals in his first 16 Bundesliga matches for Union Berlin, a statistic that speaks for itself, and his impact on the course of the game was equally impressive.
Among them, several key goals in the final stages of the season were particularly memorable.
In the away match against Freiburg, Ilic scored the winning goal, securing a 2-1 victory and helping the team complete a comeback, earning Union Berlin an important win.
And in the unforgettable 4-4 draw against Stuttgart, Ilic scored twice. In a thrilling goal-fest, his performance helped Union Berlin secure a point at home and successfully avoid relegation.
With his excellent heading ability, presence in the penalty area, and keen sense for crucial moments, Ilic quickly became an important pivot in Union Berlin's attacking system.
After officially joining in the summer of 2025, his importance was further demonstrated. To date, Ilic has played in 50 official matches for Union Berlin, directly involved in 25 goals, including 13 goals and 12 assists.
Ilic: Very happy to continue at Union Berlin
Regarding the contract extension, Ilic said: "From the first day I arrived at Union Berlin, I felt very comfortable. The team, the fans, and the entire club environment quickly helped me integrate and also gave me immense trust. Therefore, I am very happy to be able to continue staying here. I believe we still have a lot to achieve together, and I hope to contribute my part to help Union Berlin continue to succeed in the future.
"For me, this contract extension reflects mutual recognition between both sides, and I am very happy about it."
Union Berlin General Manager Horst Heldt also expressed satisfaction with the contract extension.
He said: "Andrija has grown into an important member of the team in a short period. He possesses all the qualities required of a modern center-forward, including physical presence, aerial ability, goal threat, and a willingness to work hard for the team. He has earned the club's trust with his performance.
"Therefore, we are very happy to continue working with him and rely on his abilities for the long term in the future."
