Liverpool drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at home in the second round of the Premier League. After the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot accepted an interview with beIN Sports.

Andoni, you ultimately earned one point, but how would you rate the team's overall performance? How was it different from last week?

I think the first half and second half were completely different performances. I thought we played very poorly in the first half, but we improved significantly after halftime, and our intensity increased. Ultimately, we finished the game with a much stronger performance. Despite the poor showing in the first half, I think we also had some bad luck with VAR decisions. One of their goals that should have been ruled offside wasn't, and one of our goals that was onside was ruled offside. Both decisions went against us. But we have to control what we can control, and our second-half performance was indeed much better.

What do you think of the two goals conceded? Last week you talked about the goals the team conceded, so what do you think of these two tonight?

I think both goals conceded resulted from our failure to defend throw-ins—they were two different types of situations. I especially don't want to start discussing or debating the penalty decision on the second goal; you might have your views on that, but what really frustrated us was that it took an unknown amount of time to complete our substitutions.

We submitted our substitution request to the fourth official about three minutes in advance, but we wanted to make changes during two stoppages in play and couldn't complete them. I don't know if that caused the goals, but it certainly didn't help us.

Did this also change the three players you originally wanted to substitute?

No, it just slightly changed the timing of the substitutions. I was originally planning to make three simultaneous substitutions after we scored to capitalize on the momentum and see if we could add another goal.

But when I saw the momentum cool down a bit—things slowed during the five-minute wait—we decided to make the substitutions at a different moment.

Finally, let's talk about your experience at Anfield. This is your first match here since taking charge of the team. How do you feel?

I think the fans were fantastic. After our poor performance in the first half, they helped us tremendously in the second half. When we equalized to 1-1 and 2-2, they kept pushing us forward. They lifted us. Now it's our responsibility to give them more, so we can all enjoy the game together.
