OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
Atlético de Madrid and Juventus have reached an agreement over the loan of Jonathan David. The striker will wear the Red & White jersey during the 2026/27 season.
Jonathan David was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Jan. 14, 2000, although he moved to Haiti at an early age. He moved to Ottawa as a six-year-old. His performances as a youth player in the Canadian capital caught the eye of Gent, who decided to sign him in early 2018.
In Belgium, he began to show his full attacking potential and, after scoring 37 goals in his two seasons with Gent, he moved to LOSC Lille in 2020. The striker spent five years with the French side, during which he made 232 appearances – netting 109 goals and providing 31 assists. Moreover, he won the league and the Super Cup in France. His performances for the Ligue 1 club earned him a move to Juventus in 2025.
A senior Canada international since 2018, the striker is his country’s all-time leading goalscorer with 42 goals. He represented Canada at the 2026 World Cup, where he netted three times.
He usually plays as a centre-forward, although his strengths go far beyond his ability to finish off moves. Jonathan David stands out for his mobility, his ability to link up with his teammates, his speed and his versatility in attack.
The Canada international passed his medical at the Vithas - Invictum High-Performance Sports Medicine Centre at the Arturo Soria University Hospital in Madrid before heading to the Atlético de Madrid offices at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
