OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
Borussia Dortmund is responding to Giannis Konstantelias’s injury-related absence by signing Ethan Nwaneri on loan from Arsenal FC. The loan for the 19-year-old midfielder runs through the end of the 2026–27 season.
Lars Ricken, BVB’s Managing Director of Sports, explains: “By signing Ethan on loan, we’ve succeeded in bringing in a very talented and technically gifted midfielder. Given Giannis Konstantelias’s extended absence, it was important for us to be able to strengthen our roster at short notice. For us, signing Ethan was the best possible solution from a sporting perspective. We’re pleased that we were able to finalize this deal just before the transfer window closed.”
Nwaneri joined the Arsenal Academy at the age of eight and progressed through the youth ranks there. In September 2022, he made his Premier League debut and, at 15 years, 5 months, and 28 days, became the youngest player in the history of England’s top flight.
After a total of 51 professional appearances and ten goals, he spent the second half of last season on loan at Olympique Marseille in Ligue 1 (11 games, 2 goals). Nwaneri is currently a member of the English U21 national team, where he plays alongside BVB pro Jobe Bellingham.
