Liverpool have submitted their 25-man squad to UEFA ahead of next week's clash vs Atletico Madrid.

Andoni Iraola has omitted two big-name players from Liverpool’s Champions League squad, despite including four goalkeepers in the line-up. The Reds have submitted their 25-man list to UEFA ahead of the competition opener next week.

Liverpool kick off their Champions League campaign with a home game against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off). But both Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo won’t be involved after being left out of the squad.

Chiesa has missed the first two Premier League games of the season due to a lower back injury, but is expected to return sometime this month. Endo, meanwhile, has been an unused substitute for both games.

Chiesa reportedly earns around £150,000-a-week at Anfield, after making a £10 million switch from Juventus in 2024. But he has failed to nail down a regular starting place at the club.

Despite the Italian's expectation of recovering from his injury quickly, he has still fallen behind those continuing their comebacks from longer-term problems. Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are not expected back in action until later in the year, but all three have been included in the Champions League squad ahead of both Chiesa and Endo.

The squad also includes academy graduate James McConnell, who last played for the club two seasons ago, and was linked with a move away in the summer transfer window. The decisions by Iraola send a clear message to the duo.

It comes after Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher claimed that the duo are ‘never going to play’ under the current manager. He told the Overlap: “Liverpool have got two players in the squad who are never going to play.

“And there are all these quotas, you can only have 17 players and all that. They have got Chiesa and Endo. It’s like they are never going to kick a ball.

“Endo should have been moved on. He has done great, a bit of a cult hero.”

Endo will hope to make his first appearance of the season when Liverpool take on newly-promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Friday night (8pm kick-off). The Reds are searching for their first win of the new season.

A 2-2 opening day draw against Newcastle United was followed last weekend by the same scoreline against Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Ipswich, meanwhile, beat Sunderland in their opening game before falling to a 5-2 loss against Manchester United last weekend.
