Hansi Flick believes there is still room for improvement in his Barcelona team despite the Blaugrana maintaining their perfect start to their LaLiga title defence on Sunday. 

Barcelona put in an impressive display at the Estadio de Mestalla, with Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal taking centre-stage during their 5-0 thrashing of struggling Valencia. 

Yamal took just six minutes to open the scoring before Fermin, who assisted Barcelona's opener, got in on the act when he finished beyond Stole Dimitrievski.

Raphinha pulled Hansi Flick's side further clear five minutes after the restart, with quickfire goals from Yamal and Pedri rubber-stamping their victory in the closing stages. 

Barcelona have now scored five goals in two consecutive away matches in LaLiga (5-0 against Elche and Valencia) for the first time since September 2016 (5-1 against Leganes and 5-0 against Sporting Gijon). 

They finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 4.05 from their 25 shots, 10 of which were on target, while also restricting Valencia to just three attempts, further highlighting their quality at both ends of the pitch. 

They are also the only team in the division to win all four of their matches in 2026-27, though Flick said there are still certain areas of their game which can be improved. 

"After a 5-0 win, we continued to attack, attack and attack. I want to control the games more. And you have to save energy. We can improve, nothing is ever perfect," Flick said.

"For me, the important thing is the three points, but we have quality on the pitch. We can attack well against low blocks and use the space.

"We have a lot of players of great quality and I have to manage that. It is not easy. In football, things change very quickly."

Flick singled out two players for praise during his post-match assessment, with Fermin and summer signing Rodri impressing him during their comfortable triumph. 

Fermin has now been involved in 10 goals in four LaLiga games against Valencia (six goals, four assists), more than he has against any other opponent in the competition.

He is also the first Spanish player to contribute to six goals in Barcelona's first four matches of a LaLiga season since Cesc Fabregas in 2011-12 (four goals and four assists).

"He has a lot of intensity inside and outside the box. He will retrieve balls. He has a lot of intensity with the ball. Sometimes he makes mistakes, but he is doing very well," Flick said of Fermin.

Rodri, meanwhile, controlled the game from midfield. His 81 successful passes were more than anybody else for Barcelona, while his 91 touches were only bettered by Gerard Martin (93) and Yamal (105).

"We are happy that he is in our team. Of what he does with the ball and for the team," Flick said.

"But I also want to highlight the good work of Marc Bernal. He is improving. Rodri is incredible not only on the pitch, but also in the dressing room. He is a leader."
