It seems you haven't had much rest this summer?

"It's the same for almost every player now. But it's good. I love football and I love being here. As for my teammates, everything is good—it's a good start to the season."

"Although our current results aren't ideal, because at Liverpool you have to win every game. But I see a lot of progress and positives, and we have to maintain that momentum. Tomorrow's match will be very important."

What about your future?

"As everyone knows, there was indeed a possibility of me leaving this summer. I learned that the club decided not to offer me a new contract, which of course made me very sad. Everyone can see that I give 100% for this club every day in training. Like everyone, I have good games and bad games, but I always give my all. I'm happy to see that Szoboszlai and Gravenberch have both renewed their contracts, because they deserve them. But at the same time, it makes me sad that I haven't received my own contract renewal. However, there's still time. Fans don't need to worry—as long as I'm here, I will always give 100% until my last day at the club. Let's see what happens."

"There were indeed some options to leave this summer, but now I believe I'm at the right club and in the right frame of mind, and I will continue to give 100% for this club. I have two years left on my contract. Will things change? Maybe, I don't know. It will depend on my performance this season. The club has the right to make its own decisions. But fans don't need to worry—I will give 100% and maybe the club will change their mind. As for the reason? There's no clear reason, really. The club hasn't talked to me directly about it; they communicated with my agent instead. I don't want to say something the club never said, but according to my agent, the club is currently not in a position to renew my contract."

"It's really sad. We won the Premier League together, and we went through difficult times together. I will always give my all. Let's see what happens, but there's no doubt this has genuinely made me sad."

Do you feel you have something to prove?

"Not really, because I've always been the same person and the same player. I won't change—this is who I am. I've done a lot of great things in my three years at the club. We've been through difficult times together, achieved a lot, won the Premier League and the League Cup. For me, this has been a very successful period in my life."

"I don't need to prove anything to anyone, but I do need to show the level I can reach. I love this club, I love being here, and I love the fans. As a player, sometimes when you've been at a club for a very long time, you don't really realize where you are."

"But that won't happen to me. I know very well that I play for a great club, and this city is very special."

What do you think of the new manager Iraola?

"Very good, of course. From the moment I came to pre-season training under Andoni, I could feel something special. I've said it before—he's a very good manager who knows exactly what he wants to do, and we're working hard toward that goal. I haven't discussed this with him yet, but when I see how he wants us to play and how we train, I think we can have a successful season. That's why I believe this is where I should be."

Why did you reject offers from other clubs?

"Because this is the right club. As I said, I love being here. There's something special about this place. If I feel we can succeed, I want to win trophies. We have the right players and the right mentality."

Did injuries affect you last season?

"No, not really. It wasn't a serious injury—I was basically playing through pain. The pain started around the middle of the season, when we won the Premier League, but it wasn't an injury that kept me out."

"But this is something every player at this level experiences. There are too many matches, and you want to be involved. I'm willing to take responsibility for that, because it wasn't an ideal season for me personally or for the team. I'm not unwilling to take responsibility for it."
