Several media outlets have reported serious financial troubles at the AFA, claiming the federation may be unable to pay 2026 World Cup bonuses to coaching staff and players. However, Argentine media outlets have disputed these claims. Tyc Sports stated: "World Cup qualification bonuses are paid 180 days after the tournament concludes, so immediate distribution is not possible."

Nevertheless, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the atmosphere within the AFA has become tense and even "chaotic." The federation recently announced warm-up opponents for September's international fixtures: Burkina Faso, Bolivia, and Benin.
