According to The Athletic, VAR official Matt Donohue, who incorrectly allowed Erling Haaland's goal in the Manchester Derby, and assistant VAR Blake Antrobus have both been omitted from the officiating appointments for this weekend's Premier League matches.

The Premier League's refereeing body, PGMOL, stated after the match that there was a "significant error" when VAR intervened in Manchester City's away victory over Manchester United, which was decided by Haaland's goal. Donohue, who was the lead VAR for the incident, does not appear in the Premier League referee appointments for next weekend. This is the 37-year-old official's first missed matchday this season; he previously served as VAR for Brighton's opening-day win against Aston Villa, Sunderland's victory over Fulham, and Newcastle United's draw with Bournemouth.

Donohue will also not be involved in officiating the League Cup this midweek.

This decision, made by PGMOL chief refereeing officer Howard Webb and his management team, means both officials will not return to action until after the upcoming international break at the earliest.

Haaland's goal was initially disallowed for offside, as the Norwegian striker appeared to be ahead of Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot, and midfielder Enzo Fernández was in an offside position when running towards the cross. VAR overturned the decision.

A PGMOL spokesperson said after the match on Sunday evening that VAR "did not recognise the potential impact of Fernández's position and should have recommended an on-field review."

PGMOL's statement added: "We have contacted Manchester United to acknowledge that we believe a significant error was made. The incident will be reviewed."

Premier League rules state that "a player is deemed to have committed an offence if they are clearly attempting to play the ball when it is nearby, and this action impacts an opponent." At the time, Fernández was being marked by Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez, who consequently vacated the back post, leaving Haaland unmarked.

During the match, the Premier League Match Centre explained: "VAR checked the referee's decision to disallow Haaland's goal for offside, determining that Haaland was in an onside position and recommending the goal be awarded. VAR also determined that while Fernández was in an offside position, he did not touch the ball."
