Inter and Cagliari have missed out on Nicolas Gonzalez, as the Argentinos Juniors striker is ready to sign for VfB Stuttgart.

The 20-year-old forward was due to arrive in Serie A via Sardinia, in synergy with Inter for a future move to San Siro.

However, he was convinced by the Stuttgart option and a deal is on the verge of completion.

Argentinos Juniors will receive €8.5m plus 12 per cent of any future transfer.

Gonzalez is flying out from Argentina today and should have a medical ahead of signing the five-year contract.

He scored seven goals with one assist in 23 Primera Division games.
