According to FIFA, online hate comments surged during the FIFA World Cup, and FIFA has deleted more than 7 million abusive, intimidating or threatening content.

The "Social Media Protection Service" under FIFA is responsible for cleaning up, and the agency has reviewed a total of 53 million comments. FIFA stated that relevant remarks may continue to rise during the final match between Spain and Argentina on Sunday morning Beijing time (CEST).

In 2022, FIFA deleted 470,000 abusive or intimidating comments, but there were 40 fewer matches and a shorter schedule in that tournament. The number of relevant posts reported by FIFA increased 10 times, exceeding 200,000.

In addition, AI also "reviewed and evaluated more than 500,000 messages sent to players, coaches and officials." More than 15,000 of them were "referred for further processing," and more than 1,000 particularly serious threats were reported to relevant agencies, including law enforcement.
