Antony Taylor has taken on a role as head of elite referees at the Turkish FA just days after retiring, according to The Sun.

However, the 47-year-old referee has now confirmed that he has ended his 20-year career, during which he officiated 668 domestic matches and three major international tournaments, and will now serve as Turkey's Head of Elite Referees.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) issued a statement on Tuesday confirming his new position and detailing a long-term agreement.

The statement read: "In his new role, Antony will lead the strategic and technical development of the Federation's elite refereeing.

"His responsibilities will include supporting the development of referees and helping to strengthen the broader refereeing system to meet UEFA and FIFA standards.

"This appointment marks a new phase in his career at the highest level of domestic and international football.

"During his refereeing career, Antony officiated in the Premier League, Champions League, European Championship and World Cup."

Taylor's move to the Turkish refereeing system may be seen as a bold decision, as Turkey has recently experienced serious officiating controversies.

Last season, Turkish football officials launched a disciplinary investigation into refereeing issues after finding 152 referees actively involved in gambling during an investigation.
