Jurgen Reijers said he was unhappy at Ajax after joining Werder Bremen. The defensive midfielder spoke about the reasons for his departure after completing his unveiling this week.

"I wasn't happy at Ajax," Reijers said bluntly at Werder Bremen's press conference. "For the past year and a half, people have been writing that they are looking for a new No. 6, and that Ajax is not satisfied with me. So, for me, leaving to join Werder Bremen was not a difficult decision."

Werder Bremen had been following the 23-year-old Reijers for some time, but did not make a move until the end of August, after Jens Stage's injury.

Reijers recalled the negotiations with the German club: "I didn't hear from them for the first few weeks, but on Sunday morning, I got a call telling me that Bremen wanted me. After that, everything moved very quickly. I really liked what the club's management thought of me."

The former Ajax player is looking forward to a new chapter in Bremen. He said: "The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world. Looking at Werder Bremen's history, it wasn't a difficult decision for me." Reijers is delighted to join the club that won the championship in 2004.

Davy Klaassen, who played for Werder Bremen from 2018 to 2020, has wished Reijers all the best in northern Germany. Reijers revealed: "He told me Werder Bremen is a great club. If I need anything, I can contact him."

Reijers chose the No. 44 shirt at Werder Bremen. He explained: "There were several numbers available, but none of them particularly suited me at first. Then I thought about the number I wanted, and finally decided on the one I wore for my professional football debut."
