According to Ghanaian media outlet, Crystal Palace forward Nketiah is on the verge of completing a national team allegiance switch from England to Ghana.

It is understood that Nketiah, 27, has made significant progress in changing his national team allegiance, and the relevant documents are currently being compiled for FIFA's consideration.

Due to his family background, Nketiah has always had the possibility of representing Ghana, and Ghana had previously approached him about this.

If this switch is ultimately completed, it will undoubtedly be a major boost for the Ghanaian national team, which is further strengthening its attacking end.

Nketiah has recently recovered from injury and is gradually becoming an important player under new Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage.

In Crystal Palace's 3-2 comeback victory over Fulham on September 5, Nketiah started and assisted Tyrick Mitchell's first goal for the team.

Although Nketiah has played for the England senior team, he is still eligible to change associations according to FIFA regulations, as he has only one senior team appearance, and this sole appearance came in an unofficial match.

Nketiah made his senior national team debut in a friendly match between England and Australia in October 2023 and has not been called up to the England senior team since.

However, a player's official change of association must be approved by FIFA before they can represent a new national team. FIFA also stipulates that while an application is under review, the player cannot play for their former national team or the new national team.

Nketiah has had an excellent record in England's youth teams, especially in the U21 team, where he became England U21's all-time leading scorer with 16 goals.

As he has never been able to establish himself in the England senior team, the possibility of Nketiah representing Ghana has always existed, despite past external uncertainties about his national team future.

Ghana has been interested in Nketiah for many years. In June this year, Nketiah's father confirmed that officials from Ghana's Ministry of Sports and other relevant parties had previously contacted his family, hoping to facilitate the forward's participation for the "Black Stars".

If FIFA ultimately approves Nketiah's allegiance switch, he will add an experienced attacking player to the Ghana team and also bring an end to the years-long discussions surrounding his senior national team allegiance.

Once the allegiance switch is officially approved, Nketiah will be eligible to play for the Ghanaian national team.
