Two years after his haircut challenge went viral, Manchester United fan Frank Illet is back where he started.

For most clubs, success and failure can be defined by points, trophies, and medals. The same is true for Manchester United, but their progress can also be measured in days. More specifically, that number is 712 days.

This is how long Manchester United fan Frank Illet, also known as "The United Strand," has gone without a haircut while waiting for his team to win five games in a row.

At the end of last season, after losses to Nottingham Forest and Brighton, Carrick's team had a chance to complete the task against newly promoted Hull City and Ipswich, and then finish with an away win against Everton. As it turned out, things didn't go according to plan.

A 2-0 away loss to Hull City brought everything back to square one. A 5-2 win over Ipswich briefly made people think the season's opening was just an unwanted mishap, but a draw with Everton, coupled with a controversial loss to 10-man Manchester City, dampened those hopes again.

Could it get any worse? In the League Cup match against Brighton, the team took a 2-0 lead in less than 10 minutes, but surprisingly lost 3-2.

Illet could only watch as his hair grew longer and longer. His challenge is now officially approaching two years—his last haircut was on October 5, 2024—and his longest strands are nearly 14 inches long.

Meanwhile, Illet continues to raise money for the Little Princess Trust, an organization that makes wigs for children with cancer.

The only thing that could end Illet's challenge before it reaches two years is for Manchester United to beat Fulham away in their last game before the international break.
