According to the BBC, Liverpool are approaching external candidates as part of their search for a new sporting director, with Brentford technical director Lee Dykes among those the club has met.

It is understood that despite this, the Reds still prefer an internal appointment, with current technical director Julian Ward considered a strong candidate to replace Richard Hughes. Hughes's move to Al-Hilal was confirmed earlier this month.
Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon is leading the process.
In addition to Dykes, Brentford sporting director Phil Giles is also highly regarded, but it may be difficult to lure him away from West London.
Furthermore, Fenway Sports Group has also spoken with other external candidates. Dykes played a key role in consolidating Brentford's Premier League status following their promotion in 2021, having joined the club in May 2019.
