According to Bild, Borussia Mönchengladbach appears to have found a new head coach after dismissing Adi Hütter. The club's sporting director, Roland Virkus, provided an update before the match against Mainz.

Virkus told Sky Sports: "We managed to communicate in relative calm. Fortunately, the outside world hasn't noticed yet that our negotiations have made very good progress."

When asked if there was already a new top candidate, Virkus explicitly replied, "Yes, there is now."

Virkus: Needs an experienced coach

Virkus further stated: "What we need is a coach with some experience, who has already proven that he can handle difficult situations. This is Borussia Mönchengladbach, a very, very big club, and there are high expectations from the outside. Therefore, the new coach must be able to influence the team well."

However, Virkus did not reveal the specific name of the candidate.

It is certain that former Hannover coach Christian Titz will not become Borussia Mönchengladbach's new coach. Titz had just been dismissed by Hannover, and this summer, when Hütter's position was still uncertain, Titz and Virkus had discussed the Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach role.

Virkus now explicitly stated: "He is a very good person and a very good coach, but he will not be our choice."

Subsequently, Virkus further confirmed in an interview with DAZN that Horst Steffen is also not being considered by Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Virkus said: "I used to play with Horst. I think he even lives nearby. But he is not our candidate."

Licht and Gehlhaus confirmed to stay

In the match against Mainz, Borussia Mönchengladbach was temporarily led by assistant coach Jan-Moritz Licht. However, Licht had previously made it clear that he would not consider taking on the head coach position.

Therefore, after the match, he will return to his assistant coach role along with fellow assistant coach Markus Gehlhaus.

It is certain that no matter who ultimately becomes Borussia Mönchengladbach's new coach, Licht and Gehlhaus will remain on the coaching staff. Virkus has even listed this as a prerequisite for the new head coach to take office.
