According to StadiumDB, Italy's national heritage authority Soprintendenza found no reason to block approval, allowing the club to proceed with the Environmental Impact Assessment (VIA).

Concerns were raised regarding a Roman-era cistern located near the pedestrian bridge on Via di Livorno.

Roma must incorporate this cistern into the stadium plans, as it is the only protected structure currently on the site.

Archaeological surveys are ongoing at the £1 billion stadium site.

The southern area has been surveyed, and a Roman villa and road will undergo further excavation.

If additional ancient archaeological layers are discovered, further investigation and protective measures will be required.

Landscape preservation concerns have also been raised for the site.

Recommendations call for Roma to protect local biodiversity and complete a tree census before construction begins.

There are also calls for the club to increase the density and diversity of trees on the site, with native oak, maple, and Mediterranean redbud identified as ideal choices.

The new stadium will end Roma's 70-year association with the 70,634-capacity Stadio Olimpico.

Since opening in 1953, Roma has shared the venue with arch-rivals Lazio.

However, Lazio is also planning to move, currently intending to redevelop the now-dilapidated Stadio Flaminio into a modern stadium with a capacity of 50,000.

As several Italian clubs plan stadium relocations, Verona is also seeking to demolish the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.

Roma still plans to begin construction in spring 2027, coinciding with the club's centenary celebrations, with an expected opening in 2030.
