According to Qatar's Al-Kass television channel, Bahrain's national team has filed a formal protest against Qatar player Assim Madibo's participation in the match, despite Bahrain losing to Qatar 0-2 at the Gulf Cup (Gulf 27).

Bahrain was defeated by Qatar 0-2 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah during the first group stage match of the Gulf Cup.

FIFA had previously banned Madibo from playing for five matches after he was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Canada's Ismael Koné during the second group stage of the World Cup. Bahrain's protest over Madibo's participation in this match is based on that suspension.

After facing Canada, Qatar played only one more match—the third group stage game against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup—before being eliminated from the tournament. Qatar did not play any other matches before the Gulf Cup.

If Bahrain's protest is upheld, they would be awarded three points for the match, moving them to second place in Group B, behind leaders UAE on goal difference. However, Qatar would drop to third place with no points.
