England captain Kane had a golden penalty opportunity in this match, but his shot from the spot hit the crossbar and was ultimately ruled as a double touch.

Coincidentally, the opponents in Kane's last two penalty misses for England have both been reigning World Cup champions. The previous occasion was in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals, where he blasted a penalty over the bar against France, leading to England's 1-2 defeat and elimination from the semi-finals.
