According to German outlet Kicker, Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner recently revealed in an interview that during this summer's transfer window, he rejected an offer from club owner Evangelos Marinakis to bring in more new players. Glasner stated he wanted to maintain team balance by controlling squad size. However, he is open to reconsidering transfers in January. He also discussed how he came to join Nottingham Forest and his working relationship with Marinakis.

In July, Nottingham Forest appointed Glasner as their new head coach after parting ways with Vítor Pereira. Pereira had taken over the team in February and helped Nottingham Forest avoid relegation last season, ultimately finishing 16th in the Premier League.
This summer, Nottingham Forest signed six players in Glasner's first transfer window as manager. The club spent over 130 million euros to sign Liam Delap, Ousmane Diomande, Daniel Muñoz, and Gustavo Sá, while two other new signings, Schlager and Steven Benda, joined as free agents.
Due to finishing 16th in the Premier League last season, Nottingham Forest did not qualify for European competitions this season. Given the relatively limited number of matches the team will play, Glasner did not want an overly large squad and therefore rejected the owner's proposal for further reinforcements. However, he is open to re-entering the market in the January transfer window.
Glasner stated: "From a squad perspective, it's important how we strategize and restructure. We didn't bring in a large number of new players; instead, we made targeted reinforcements, such as signing Schlager. Considering there are no European competitions this season, we want to keep the entire adjustment process more compact."
"I even rejected the owner's offer to bring in more players. I'd rather wait until January so we have more preparation time."
In addition to discussing the team's transfer plans, the 52-year-old Glasner also revealed that after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, Nottingham Forest was not initially on his radar. Ultimately, club owner Marinakis played a crucial role in convincing him to accept the coaching position.
Glasner explained: "To be honest, Nottingham Forest was not on my list of clubs to consider joining at all."
"I need to feel that a club has development potential, and that everyone is willing to work hard to realize that potential. Here, I really felt that. During my conversations with the owner, I quickly felt that exciting spark, and I realized I was passionate about this challenge."
Since Greek businessman Marinakis took over Nottingham Forest in 2017, Glasner is the 11th manager the club has appointed.
Regarding his relationship with Marinakis, Glasner said: "Of course, no owner invests on a whim; they have many decisions to make. But on some fundamental principles, our ideas align—we both want Nottingham Forest to achieve as much success as possible."
"I told the owner that when the team faces difficulties, I need his support. And no matter how much work he does around the club, what happens on the pitch is always the most important thing. Currently, we are jointly clarifying the priorities."
Last month, Glasner stated that Nottingham Forest's start to the season would not be easy. Currently, the team has secured only one win in their first five Premier League matches, placing them 14th in the standings. Nottingham Forest was also eliminated from the EFL Cup in the second round after losing to Leeds United.
