According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, McKennie is set to become Juventus' most-capped player following the match against Cagliari.

McKennie is currently level with Locatelli on 233 appearances. Should he feature against Cagliari, he will move to the top with 234 appearances, trailing only Edgardo Davids (235 appearances) on Juventus' all-time foreign players appearances list. Szczesny sits 10th on the list with 252 appearances, a mark McKennie could challenge this season. He is also level with Yıldız as Juventus' joint top scorer among current players, with both having scored 27 goals. The new management hopes to usher in a new cycle, and the lack of serious competition behind McKennie is striking.

Seniority in Appearances

In terms of appearances and tenure, McKennie is already a veteran in the dressing room. On Juventus' active squad appearances list, besides Locatelli—who is injured and remains on 233 appearances—McKennie is followed by Rugani and Gatti with 157 and 139 appearances respectively. Neither are regular starters, and both face potential departures in the coming transfer window, with their futures uncertain.

Cambiaso has 134 appearances, Yıldız 132, Gleison Bremer 128, and Kalulu 98. The original report notes that Bremer and Kalulu are Juventus' true pillars early this season.

Team Reliance

Paratici brought McKennie to Turin in 2020. The signing was somewhat unexpected at the time, occurring during a special transfer window shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, aimed at meeting the recruitment demands of incoming manager Andrea Pirlo. Juventus saw McKennie as a potentially important talent for Italian football, though there were concerns that his personality—both on and off the pitch—might struggle to adapt to the club's relatively strict environment.

After a difficult first season, McKennie became a trusted player for successive Juventus managers, from Allegri to Thiago Motta and others. He runs hard, is willing to work for his teammates, and follows instructions well. He was repeatedly linked with moves away but has always remained integral to the squad, and Juventus has consistently relied on his contributions. McKennie has renewed his contract twice and remains a key player for the team, one of the few reliable options as Juventus rebuilds.
