In an exclusive interview with RMC, Mateta said he has recovered from his injury and hopes to rejoin the French national team in November.

Mateta, who played 3 matches for France in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, has faced difficulties due to injury at the start of the season. He will soon be able to return to playing for Crystal Palace.

He played 63 minutes in the first match of the season but has not returned since. Mateta has been sidelined with a muscle injury since the start of the Premier League season. However, in an interview with RMC on Wednesday, he said he finally expects to recover from the injury soon.

"I'll be back soon. I should be able to train with the team tomorrow and be in the squad for Sunday's match against Nottingham Forest. This is a very complicated hamstring injury," Mateta said. After 5 matches, Pierre Sage's Crystal Palace sits 15th in the Premier League and urgently needs their striker back to improve the team's position.

"I will do everything to be selected for November's international matches."

The former Lyon and Lens striker enjoyed full confidence last season, scoring 12 league goals and earning selection for the World Cup in the United States, where he played 3 matches. While Zidane's first training camp focused on young players and open competition, Mateta has not given up on the French national team.

"Like all French people, I watched those matches on TV. They played really well," Mateta said. He then spoke about his "dream" of playing in the 2026 World Cup. "I have always strived to get into the French team. I know that journey is not finished yet. I will do everything to get back into the squad. Playing for Zidane? That would be a dream. He is one of the greatest players in French history. Playing under Deschamps was also a dream. I will do everything to be called up in November," the 29-year-old striker added.

France will face Italy and Turkey on November 12 and 15, and Mateta has several more matches ahead to prove himself. Crystal Palace will face Lyon away in the Europa League on October 15.
