Jimmy Cobblah speaks on his team's participation at the upcoming tournaments

Ghana coach Jimmy Cobblah believes playing at the Wafu B U-20 Cup of Nations will represent a significant step in the team's preparations for the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations tournament.

The Black Satellites are one of eight teams scheduled for the regional competition which is set to run between December 6 and 16 in Togo.

With the exception of FC Midtjylland midfielder Michael Baidoo, Ghana's playing contingent comprise entirely of home-based players.

“We believe the Wafu isn’t about the cup but about preparation [for the Afcon next year]," Cobblah told pressmen ahead of their departure for the Wafu tournament.

"We have spent some time with the team during the qualifiers where we invited some European players. And now they are gone.

“So we have decided to look at the local players around and understudy them from now to the end of the tournament.

"And we will know those who can make the team after the Wafu for the Afcon."

At the Wafu championship, Ghana have been pitted against Nigeria, Niger and Benin in Group B.

The U-20 Afcon, however, comes off in Niger between February 2 and 17 next year.

The top four sides at the continental showpiece will earn qualification tickets for the world gathering in Poland in May/June.
