Newcastle had previously been considered one of the clubs most genuinely interested in signing the French U21 goalkeeper. The Premier League club then made a high offer, which was approved by Reims' management. Reims had initially hoped to receive at least 20 million euros to release the player, whose contract runs until June 2029 and whose characteristics are very suitable for the Premier League. The two parties finalized a fixed transfer fee of 25 million euros plus 3.5 million euros in bonuses in the last few hours.

Evann Guessand performed excellently this season, keeping 15 clean sheets in Ligue 2, and he has already agreed to a four-year contract with Newcastle.
