According to Liverpool Echo, Robertson discussed on a podcast his emotions about returning to Anfield and his reasons for joining Tottenham.

Andy Robertson admitted he found it strange returning to Liverpool in the League Cup earlier this month. He shared his feelings about the reception from fans when he returned to Anfield with Tottenham.

"Yeah, it was weird," Robertson said on the "Stick to Football" podcast. "Obviously, when the fixtures first came out, I looked through them and you always look for Liverpool's first away game. It said December, and I thought, that's good, I can settle at Spurs first."

"Then the cup came around, and we beat Charlton at home, and everyone in the changing room was screaming, 'You're going back!' (sighs)."

"But honestly, it was still really special. In terms of the reception the fans gave me, it really was something."

"I'd been there a long time, and to come back in a different color shirt and still get a reception like that—it felt really good."

Robertson also revealed that although Tottenham first approached him, he never seriously considered leaving Liverpool in January. However, he realized around that time that he would leave the Reds once his contract expired. He also admitted that Tottenham was the only club he wanted to join, provided they stayed up in the Premier League.

Robertson said: "I think it was probably in January when I realized I would be leaving; I nearly left in January. I didn't want to leave, but Tottenham came for me."

"Obviously, they were in a really difficult situation at that point. I just thought... I never intended to leave in January."

"I had six months left on my contract, and there was a World Cup and things like that going on. I thought that by January, things started to become clearer, and I knew I would leave, and I started to accept that reality."

"I always wanted to come to Tottenham, as long as they didn't go down. You know what I mean? At that point, I didn't want to go down to the Championship with Tottenham."

"So that was the key thing, and then I started following Tottenham's matches, and I liked seeing how they were doing."

"No, I don't think they'll go down. Especially after De Zerbi arrived, I'm completely confident they'll stay up."

"But yeah, as long as they stay up, I'll come to Tottenham. They were the first to show interest, they really wanted me, and I really appreciated their desire to have me."
