Viktor Gyokeres was on target for Sweden once again as Graham Potter's side stayed perfect in the Nations League with a 3-1 win over Poland.

Match Report

Sebastian Szymanski had cancelled out Benjamin Nygren's early opener, but Yasin Ayari and Gyokeres both struck after the break to make it two wins from two in Group B4.

Piotr Zielinski and Patrik Walemark saw a shot saved at either end within the opening four minutes before Nygren nodded in Victor Lindelof's flick-on from a recycled corner eight minutes in.

Walemark was denied by a smart Marcin Bulka save at the near post shortly after, but Poland kept the pressure on and, after Matty Cash saw a driven shot pushed away by Viktor Johansson, they found an equaliser.

Nicola Zalewski shook off his defender on the left of the area and fizzed a dangerous cross into the six-yard box, with Szymanski sprinting forward to tap in from close range with two minutes of the first half remaining.

Ayari had already seen a curler touched behind in the second half before he got his 63rd-minute goal, this time bending his shot into the bottom-right corner after ghosting past Szymanski.

Gyokeres then made sure of the three points nine minutes later, volleying in unmarked at the far post after Walemark's perfectly weighted right-sided cross.

Gyokeres finds his groove with Sweden

It is no secret that Gyokeres has had a difficult start to the season, with the Arsenal striker restricted to a few appearances so far for the Gunners, though that might change following Kai Havertz's injury while away with Germany.

But with Sweden, who were without the injured Alexander Isak, he has already scored two goals in two games, making him their top scorer at the halfway stage of the international break.

Overall, he has now contributed to goals in his last five Nations League games (eight goals, two assists), but he was once again on the outskirts for large periods, having just two shots in total. His five touches in the opposition box were the second-highest total in the team, though.

Poland enjoyed a strong first half, with only one goal to show for it despite their 13 shots – which were more than Sweden managed throughout the entire 90 minutes (12) – but even after throwing on Robert Lewandowski in the closing stages, they could not mount a fightback.
