Hello Víctor. In a short span from summer to now, many personal changes have happened to you – from leaving Osasuna to joining Liverpool, and then becoming a World Cup champion. Have you had enough time to enjoy and savor everything you're experiencing, and to stand on such an important platform?
I think all of this has happened very quickly, so fast that I haven't even had enough time to fully digest and absorb it all. But I think, for me and my family, this really has been something wonderful. You just try to enjoy every moment, every stage. Honestly, I'm in great form right now, both at Liverpool and with the national team, and I'm completely focused on the next match with the national team.
Hello Víctor, first of all, allow me to share a small story: we were teammates in a youth football academy back then, and this makes me very excited and happy because now I often tell my friends that I once played alongside a World Cup champion. Next, I'd like to ask you – how do you view this World Cup experience from the perspective of someone who lived through it? Because in my imagination, aside from the immense joy of winning the World Cup, you may have also felt some disappointment during that time because you weren't fully recovered from your injury, and you were even called up to the squad at the last minute. I wonder how you managed to experience and balance this great joy with that disappointment at the same time?
You see, it really was a mix of conflicting emotions because just participating in the World Cup was already a dream, let alone winning it with this group of teammates, people who are like family – that's simply unbelievable. But, as you mentioned, I also went through some very difficult moments: you've played well all season, earned the reward of going to the World Cup, but then... you realize your body has reached its limit, you can't be ready for a certain match, and the injury keeps recurring and persisting. You can't reach 100% optimal condition at any point throughout the entire schedule.
However, I'm also trying to learn from it and find the positive aspects. I learned a lot – I learned how to understand my body better. When you're young, you often lack this awareness and always think you're invincible. I believe this experience has greatly contributed to my maturity in that regard. To have been able to experience all of this with family and friends, I will always cherish this memory, with only the endless desire and joy that winning the championship brings in my heart.
How did it feel when you realized you finally made your official debut for Spain's national team? Following your colleague's earlier question – you couldn't debut during the World Cup, so how did it feel to make your debut on Spanish soil, in front of your countrymen and home fans?
It's always an incomparable feeling to make your official debut for Spain's national team in the UEFA Nations League. It's incredible to represent your country in any competition, in any match. In fact, at that moment, all those difficult periods you may have experienced during the World Cup came back, because your physical condition was still not fully recovered. However, I'm currently in excellent form with both the national team and Liverpool, and I can't wait for the next match so I can try to get more playing time.
Hello Víctor, looking at a national team full of such stars, how do you think you can earn a place in the starting lineup?
I work hard and train every day, contribute my small part, and continuously strive to improve my weaknesses. I believe that with this dedication and perseverance – which I think best reflect my personal qualities – I will always work to move forward and continue to help the team.
Hello Víctor, there's currently a very heated debate in Spain about the venue for the 2030 World Cup final. The media is discussing it everywhere. I'd like to ask you, do the team discuss this topic in the dressing room? Compared to playing the final in other countries, do you have any special expectations or desire about potentially playing the World Cup final at home in 2030?
Yes, I think being able to play in a World Cup in your own country would be a unique experience, but that day is still quite far away. Right now, we're completely focused on the upcoming match against Czech Republic, and regarding what will happen in the future – time will tell.
Hello Víctor, I'd also like to follow up on the topic some colleagues just mentioned: about the World Cup, you joined the squad with an injury and couldn't play, but a few days ago, you played in the match against Croatia. How did Víctor Muñoz feel when returning to Spain's national team and playing?
I felt fantastic; playing with them was smooth and easy. You always have many excellent teammates around you, many people you can pass to and combine with. I think this elevates my football and brings great benefits to me. So I felt great, and to be honest, I still want more, very much looking forward to the next match, and hoping to train today. I'm now full of motivation and anticipation, waiting for the next match.
Hello Víctor, some national team coaches – including Luis de la Fuente – have publicly expressed frustration about having to play four matches in just 10 days in the UEFA Nations League. What do you think about this? Do you think this schedule is reasonable or unreasonable?
These things are beyond my control, and I'm not in a position to comment on certain specific issues. However, the schedule really is very congested, and we've just gone through quite a long series of consecutive matches with our clubs. But, as I said, since this is something we can't control, let others worry and make decisions about it.
Víctor, you once mentioned that GPS data analysis even prompted you to change your playing position, guiding you to play as a winger. Data is becoming increasingly important in football today. As a footballer, have you discovered anything surprising about your personal data?
Nothing particularly surprising, but really, the application of GPS data is a very important topic. Being able to compare and analyze all these data metrics after each match helps you understand what needs improvement in the next training sessions and where you can make progress. I believe all this data brings great benefit to each of us as players.
